You Can't Pour from an Empty Cup

You Can't Pour from an Empty Cup

I am working on my wellness.

We all need routines. Discipline. Movement. Consistency.

The easy thing is to say you don't have time...but think of all the wasted moments every day. Waiting for that starbucks 1000 calorie drink, or stuck in the drivethrough instead of cooking real food. Scrolling on facebook looking at ads and jokes.

I have reached the weight i was 21 years ago after having my child. I'm halfway there! But i expect and know this fact: if it took 20 years to gain it, i would be foolish to think if I drop it in 4 months, it will be sustainable...if i don't change my thinking. Mindfulness. Food is not a pacifier. There are healthier ways to cope!

Contemplate these NONNEGOTIABLES for health:

1) Exercise. Lift weights and gain muscle to help your metabolism. On days you're not lifting then go for a fast 15 minute walk before anything else. Before coffee, but after putting on shoes in the am. It's worth it to clear your thinking.

2) Reading. Expand your mind and use your brain. Focus on success principles, or your own joy and fulfillment. Study your hobby. For some it's the reading the Bible, for others it may be learning an art or craft. Perhaps read about your business development. Read "Let Them." Or "Toilet Paper Entrepreneur. " This is your choice. Not ALL day long reading a book in a day. Small spurts will be retained longer. Read a chapter a day.

3) Spend 20 minutes with each of your kids every day. Without video games or phones. Connect. Know their challenges and develop trust. If you dont have time, then why did you have kids?! Be an influence in their life that is more interesting than the ipad.

4) Realize your most important client/customer is yourself! Working for money for retirement, but then being too sick to enjoy retirement is not the American way. Work stress is not worth the risks to your health. Money doesn't buy happiness. Here at midlife I can choose to be disappointed and full of regret, or I can choose to be proud. Choose your thoughts. Care for the caregiver.

5) Have a goal of doing something every day that makes this world a better place than it was when you woke up this morning. Volunteer. Pick up trash on that walk. Be kind to someone. Have a pizza with a homeless person. Let them have the leftovers.

Set goals. Long term, short term. And forgive yourself if you're running behind.
